Local Law Enforcement
Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then found multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report initial examinations show the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; officials are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the event," they commented.
City officials stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have requested to the residents for details.
An important official said the vandalism rendered him speechless and needed to be solved quickly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he posted on online, recalling the killing of nine victims by a shooter focusing on people of migrant background in February 2020.
