Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first championship for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.

Medvedev, a former number one, has had a challenging year, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in specific - led to him dropping out of the top ten and finally separating with long-term coach Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

It is the player's initial championship since the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court since March of the previous year.

Success also indicates the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at 21 different tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a event with my children together, so to get a title is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my child her name, because the first title I won when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six title deciders, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching approach and regular outbursts on the tennis court had caused commentators to doubt if his skill to compete at the highest level was concluded.

However the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform aggressively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

He fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult opponent, taking four of the concluding five points to go ahead.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his maiden tour title, gained dominance to force a final set.

He saved four initial break points in a competitive third set before the Russian secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the win with a shot at the net area, with Moutet failing to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
